For Hmong, or Miao, Lhe body of a healthy person has several souls. During an illness, physical or psychological, it is one or more souls which move away from the body, which can lead to death. After a ceremony of calling the soul, the shaman then gives a padlock that holds the soul and thus protects the person who carries it.
