Silver Hmong padlock necklace N°39
Artisan necklace, composed of a thick macramé link of waxed cotton thread on which are passed handmade solid silver beads, and a pendant in the shape of a padlock, decorated with freehand punched tribal motifs. The pearls and the padlock are patinated to reveal the work of the craftsman and reinforce the old side of this thousand-year-old jewel.
For the Hmong, or Miao, as they are called in China, the body of a healthy person has seven souls. During an illness, physical or psychological, it is one or more souls that move away from the body. After a soul-calling ceremony, the shaman then hands over a padlock that retains the soul, thus protecting the person wearing it.
