When an illness occurs – whether physical or psychological – it is sometimes a sign that one of them has strayed. To bring back and retain these souls, shamans perform a sacred ritual, the "soul calling", after which a silver padlock is given to the person concerned. It seals their return, ensures their retention with the body, and protects the person.
