In some Karen communities, as in Thai culture, waters are associated with Phra Mae Khongkha, a protective figure of rivers and waterways. She embodies the water that nourishes the land, supports harvests, and allows all forms of life to flourish.

The two fish evoke the life that inhabits the rivers under her protection. They remind us of the fragile richness of aquatic environments and the essential link that unites water, nature, and living beings.
